What is advocacy? One definition from Wikipedia, states Advocacy is an umbrella term for organized activism related to a particular set of issues. Advocacy is expected to be non-deceptive and in good faith, though it is sometimes tainted by use of propaganda. It is almost always organised into or by an advocacy group or special interests. In other instances, an individual may act as a lobbyist, on their own account, or on behalf of a corporation or industry.
Political advocacy may be understood more completely when it is compared with economic, religious, or academic advocacies; and when it is contrasted with the features of propaganda and indoctrination. Cycling advocacy is comprised of activities that defend the rights of cyclists to use the public right-of-way roads for travel, to improve the conditions for cycling, and to make cycling more popular.
Bicycle NSW advocacy strategy & direction
Bicycle NSW aims at promoting, advocating and supporting cycling. At one level, Bicycle NSW works with State & Federal government at a high level, focusing on policy setting and driving implementation of projects. Bicycle NSW also empowers Bicycle User Groups (BUGs) and Bicycle NSW Members to facilitate changes at a local level.
