The National Transport Commission (NTC) has welcomed the commitment of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) to national transport reform including progress on national regulators, long-term planning for capital cities and a strengthened capacity for the NTC to focus on regulatory reform.
"COAG's decision is an important next step towards a sustainable national transport system with less red tape, higher productivity and better safety outcomes," said Nick Dimopoulos, Chief Executive, NTC.
Mr Dimopoulos said NTC is pleased with the findings of the NTC Review.
The RTA has released its final plan (REF) for the cycleway upgrade along Victoria Road. There appears to have been no changes to their position since about June/July when we last had a meeting with BTBA and a walk-through of the Rozelle side). The REF does not have a lot of detail in terms of designs or drawings but I assume they are mostly as we have gleaned in the last year or more.

A fresh, green wind is blowing through Warringah Council, which recently voted to adopt a ‘sustainable transport strategy’. Part of this strategy involves allocating 10 per cent of the council’s road budget to the construction or upgrading of bike paths.
Join in and give them your ideas and views on what the State Plan should be focusing on, such as encouraging sustainable active transport through provision for bikes. http://www.nswstateplan.net.au/
Ms Lee Rhiannon, MLC joined members of CRAG (Canal Reserve Action Group) on Wednesday 22nd July,2009 to discuss the problems associated with the Lower Prospect Canal Reserve cycleway cross the new Reconciliation Drive A set of traffic lights is planned instead of the original plan for a bridge.
Ms Rhiannon rode with the members for about an hour along the cycleway. She will take our concerns about the dangers of at level crossing back to the relevant government agencies as we all work to have a bridge constructed.

New developments: CRAG (Canal Reserve Action Group Inc.) is a community organisation that has as its major objective the protection of the Lower Prospect Canal Reserve, which stretches from Guildford to Prospect Reservoir.
The current focus of the group is a campaign to return a safe cycleway to the reserve, by the construction of a bridge over a new section of the Prospect Highway, which is being constructed across the existing cycleway. Click here for more info.
