At 7am on a sunny Sunday morning, riders gathered in North Turramurra for the fourth Safe Cycling ride.
The Beginning of NSW Safe Cycling
Earlier this year, Gina was inspired to start a campaign to try and make things safer on the road for bike riders. In doing so, she created bibs that riders could wear with slogans such as “I’m A Mum” and “I’m A Dad” to encourage vehicles to provide the proper amount of space when overtaking. That is, 1m for a 60km/h speed limit and 1.5m for anything over that.
Safe Cycling Ride 4
Gina has now organised 4 rides now to help raise awareness of the rider bibs. This time around there were 3 different rides to cater for different skill and fitness levels.
Group 1: 4 Gorges approx 70km (Bobbo, Galston, Berowra, Bobbo)
Group 2: 3 Gorges approx 60km (Bobbo, Berowra, Bobbo)
Group 3: 3 Gorges approx 60km (Bobbo, Berowra, Bobbo)
“The ride was our most challenging in terms of elevation and it absolutely delivered,” Gina told us.
“The ride was loads of fun and giggles, along with some big achievements, and of course, riding for increased safety was just sensational.” said Gina.
Gina has already started planning the rides for next year, so stay tuned if you’d like to get involved. Find out more about safe cycling here.
