Bicycle NSW is proud to announce Ario as our official e-mobility partner

Ario, a global leader in shared mobility technology, has developed very innovative and stylish shared e-bikes and e-scooters. The e-bikes were launched in Sydney in late 2024.

Bicycle NSW, the peak advocacy body for bike riders in New South Wales, has been a driving force in promoting cycling and improving infrastructure across the state since 1976. Our new partnership with Ario is another step towards our goal of making NSW better for bike riding.

“This collaboration will bring a host of benefits to Bicycle NSW Members and the broader cycling community in NSW,” says Bicycle NSW CEO Peter McLean.

What sets Ario apart from the pack?

Ario wants to make short journeys as convenient, fun and kind to the planet as possible. Its mission is to solve the big issues that have hampered the shared mobility industry.  Employing advanced technology, Ario has addressed community concerns around parking, helmet use, sustainability and rider safety.

Ario wants riders and pedestrians to love its e-scooters and e-bikes, inspiring more sustainable journeys and connecting communities.

Enhanced safety measures

Ario takes safety for bicycle users and other road users very seriously.

For example, Ario has significantly improved helmet use through sensors that prevent the e bike from being used if the helmet remains stowed.  If helmets are not reattached after use, then a $50 fine is applied to the user. Ario is continuing to enhance this system to ensure helmet compliance is as high as possible.

An AI collision avoidance system helps prevent accidents and injuries. Dual-frequency GPS provides ultra-precise, real-time location data while speed limits are continually adjusted in geo-fenced areas based on pedestrian and lane detection.

Cutting-edge technology

The pioneering three-wheeled Ario TS1.0 e-scooters are not yet available in NSW. But Bicycle NSW has had a preview!

The scooters have two wheels at the front and one at the back. Double-wishbone suspension improves steering response and ensures smooth ride. The frame is built in a single-cast for superior strength and durability

The self-balancing design prevents the scooter from tipping over. This not only makes them more stable and accessible to ride. They can right themselves if knocked over while parked.

Even cleverer is the Ario remote ReParking!

Using an accurate 360° visual and depth scanner, the area around a parked scooter is scanned to work out where it is and if it is blocking the footpath. The Ario team can instantly self-diagnose poor parking and remotely repark the scooters in minutes.

This ensures that the public realm is kept clear to minimise the impact of the e-scooters on pedestrians.

Commitment to sustainability

Ario’s operations are supported by a fleet of fully electric vehicles, a groundbreaking first in the industry (not yet in Australia). The e-bikes and e-scooters are powered by internationally certified and recyclable batteries.

This reflects an unwavering commitment to sustainability, and to demonstrate this dedication, Ario is actively pursuing Carbon Neutral Certification in 2025.

Benefits for the cycling community

Advocacy for improved cycling infrastructure and policies:

Safe, efficient and popular shared e-mobility schemes will ensure cycling infrastructure is used more often and more safely. This creates an increased demand for more infrastructure investment.  Ario and its customers will amplify Bicycle NSW’s advocacy and campaigns.

Community engagement and education:

Bicycle NSW and ARIO will collaborate on various initiatives to engage with the community and promote bicycle use as a healthy and sustainable mode of transport. This includes community events, workshops, promotions and educational programs to encourage more people to get around by bike. Our partnership will foster a culture of cycling, and a more active and health-conscious community.

Wins for the environment:

Cycling is a sustainable mode of transport has significant environmental benefits. By reducing reliance on cars, cycling helps to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and reduce traffic congestion. Ario’s contribution to a greener and more sustainable future for NSW aligns with Bicycle NSW's mission to create a better environment for all bicycle riders.

Positive economic impact:

An uptick in bike riding will increase demand for cycling gear, accessories and services, which will support local businesses. Additionally, improved access to safe and comfortable shared e-bikes can boost tourism, as more people are likely to explore areas by bike. This will have a ripple effect on the local economy, creating jobs and backing small businesses.

“Bicycle NSW looks forward to working with Ario to drive positive change for bike riders, the broader community and the environment,” says Bicycle NSW CEO Peter McLean. “By combining expertise and resources, our partnership will be a testament to the power of collaboration in achieving common goals and creating a brighter future for cycling in NSW.”
