Thank you for your interest in becoming a Bicycle NSW Ride Mentor!
Group rides give more people the opportunity to enjoy the fun and other benefits of bike riding. Running Ride Leader training as a Ride Mentor gives you the process, the steps, and the resources for training new ride leaders.
As a participating Ride Mentor, you are the key to ensuring Bicycle NSW Ride Leaders are the right people, who have received the right training and experience necessary to equip them for leading a group of bicycle riders on public roads.
Once you are an accredited Ride Mentor, Bicycle NSW delegates to you the authority to assess ride leaders as competent and to accredit them when you are satisfied they have the skills and experience to lead a group of riders on a recreational ride.

Steps
Ride Mentor accreditation is achieved through assessment by another accredited Ride Mentor and registration by Bicycle NSW.
- The Ride Mentor candidate is nominated by their local Bicycle User Group or Bicycle NSW.
- The Ride Mentor prepares a brief statement containing the following relevant to the BUG/group’s activities, of
- their ride leading experience
- understanding of key risk management issues for the group
- how they will utilise their Ride Mentor position going forward
- Another accredited Ride Mentor will assess the statement against the criteria outlined in the Master Ride Leader - Assessment and Accreditation document.
- Once assessed, the recommendation will be sent to Bicycle NSW for final registration.
