With our event Spring Cycle being cancelled this year due to COVID-19, we wanted to know how we could continue to support our charity partner - Freedom Wheels.

They do great work in creating custom bikes for people with disabilities and for many of the children it’s the first time they have been able to move independently.

Ready, Set, Move

During the whole month of November, Freedom Wheels encourages you to take part in their Ready, Set, Move challenge.

You can choose to walk, run, wheel or cycle a distance that is challenging for you and set a fundraising goal to help a child ride a bike for the very first time. Wherever you are and whatever your fitness levels, you can take part.

“Everyone should be given the opportunity to experience the joy of riding a bike. The smiles on their faces when riding for the first time says it all,” said Alistair Ferguson, Bicycle NSW CEO.

Meet Charlie and Zara

Charlie, 6 and Zara, 4 both live with Ataxia Telangiectasia (AT) an incurable progressive condition that combines the worst symptoms of muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis and has a high rate of cancer.

They both tried regular bikes but no matter how much they wanted, they just didn’t have the strength to pedal.

When they received their custom made Freedom Wheels bikes, they could pedal with ease - just like MAGIC!

Being able to ride a bike is something most of us take for granted and we are so thankful for the joy that it has brought to Charlie and Zara, we would love to see other children have the opportunity to enjoy this experience.

Charlie and Zara are both taking part in Ready, Set, Move this coming November. They have challenged themselves to cycle 20km and all to raise funds to help other kids just like them.
