Bicycle NSW wishes to convey its condolences to the family and friends of the family of a second rider who has died following a collision on Kurrajong Road in Sydney yesterday morning.

Around 4:55am on Thursday the 19th of December two men were hit by a vehicle whilst riding their bikes travelling west along Kurrajong Road, Richmond.

In spite of the efforts of emergency services, the 49 year old rider was unable to to be saved.  The 40 year old male rider was airlifted to Westmead Hospital but died overnight of his injuries.

Police from Hawkesbury Police Area Command established a crime scene, and the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit have arrested the 19-year-old male driver an investigations continue.

“On behalf of Bicycle NSW we and our members we share our condolences with the friends and family of this rider ,” said Bicycle NSW General Manager of Public Affairs, Bastien Wallace.

“This takes the number of bike rider fatalities from crashes in NSW this year to 14, the worst we've seen since 2013.  As holiday traffic and bushfire smoke make diving conditions more difficult, we’re reminding people to slow down and take care,” said Bastien.
