Bicycle NSW wishes to convey its condolences to the family and friends of a person who died riding their bicycle yesterday, following a crash in the Newcastle suburb of Kooragang.

At around 8:40 on Sunday 10 March 2019, emergency services were called to attend Heron Road, in the Newcastle suburb of Kooragang, following reports a cyclist had crashed into the back of a parked truck.

In spite of the efforts of paramedics, and fellow members of Newcastle Cycling Club, the 62 year old man was unable to be revived and died at the scene. Newcastle Police District attended and established a crime scene, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

“We are deeply saddened by this death and wish to share our condolences on behalf of Bicycle NSW and members of the Newcastle CycleSafe Network with the family and friends of the rider,” said Bicycle NSW General Manager of Public Affairs, Bastien Wallace.
