Bicycle NSW Members survey
Here’s what we learned and what we’re doing to increase insurance benefits.
More than 800 Bicycle NSW Members took part in our 2026 Membership Survey, sharing what matters most to them and helping shape the future of cycling advocacy across New South Wales. Thank you to everyone who participated.
The results paint a clear picture: Members continue to value the work Bicycle NSW does, with an 8.3 satisfaction rating on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being ‘highly satisfied’.
When asked why Members joined Bicycle NSW, they told us two things stand above everything else.
Personal accident and public liability insurance remains the number one reason people first become Members, while supporting Bicycle NSW's advocacy work is the strongest reason Members continue renewing over time. Together, advocacy and insurance remain the foundation of what Members value most.

Advocacy Priorities
Members made it clear that improving cycling conditions remains the highest priority.
The biggest issues they want Bicycle NSW to continue advocating for are:
- Increased investment in cycling infrastructure.
- Safer laws for people riding bikes.
- Clarity on illegal devices.
- Better local connections, transport integration and closing missing links.
- Improved road safety and maintenance.
These priorities continue to guide our advocacy with governments, councils and decision-makers across NSW.

Membership durations and locations
75% of Members joined three or more years ago, while new Members are one of the fastest growing groups. Around 30% of Members live outside metropolitan Sydney, demonstrating the importance of Bicycle NSW's work across regional communities as well.

Types of rides and bikes
75% of Members like to ride for fun and recreation, with over half preferring a road bike. But E-bikes and commuter bikes continue to rise in record numbers, demonstrating that as the improvements to infrastructure and access to bike paths increases, so do the number of riders out there utilising them in their daily lives.

Where we can improve
One of the most encouraging findings was that the majority of members said they were happy with the current membership offerings. Where Members did suggest improvements, it centered on expanding insurance options, something we have managed to secure recently, by significantly increasing the Personal Injury insurance benefits. Stay tuned for the official announcement on our website and socials in the coming weeks, and in the August 2026 newsletter.

Safer roads don’t happen by chance. They happen because riders like you back the organisations that make them a priority.
