Bicycle New South Wales, with the invaluable support of our Bicycle User Groups, has had the good fortune of conducting Ride To Work Day group rides into the CBD for the past two years. The feedback has consistently been overwhelmingly positive, with riders expressing gratitude for the guided rides and often discovering routes previously unknown to them. Moreover, participants have continued to commute by bike, which is a testament to the dedication and commitment of our Master Ride Leaders and Ride Leaders who volunteer to make this possible. In response to increasing demand, we aim to expand the number of rides throughout Sydney. We are optimistic that both returning and new Leaders will register again this year, helping to grow the number of group rides. Historically, rides have set off from the North, South, East, and West of Sydney, providing commuters from these areas a chance to participate. This year, we hope more Ride Leaders from various locations will step forward to guide local groups to work in the surrounding suburbs, wherever feasible.

Map with Route

Participants would appreciate having a route and map to examine prior to the ride. They are also interested in knowing the starting point of the ride, its conclusion, and whether there will be multiple joining and exit stops.

Time of The Journey

Participants in a group ride are typically keen to know the duration of the ride and the number of stops planned en route. The majority will be commuting to their workplace.

Participant Skill Level

Most participants in Ride To Work Day group rides are intermediate to advanced cyclists, but not exclusively. Therefore, it's beneficial to offer a guide indicating the difficulty level of a ride. For example, it may be advisable to use an e-bike for certain routes.

Club Name

It's always beneficial to have the Bicycle User Group's name visible, as participants frequently seek information about the club, including how to join and when additional rides are scheduled.

Rider Profile

Providing a brief biography and photograph detailing your contact number, experience and qualifications can reassure participants that they are in the hands of a credible and competent Ride Leader.

Attendee List

Bicycle NSW will supply a detailed list of participants well before each group ride, enabling Ride Leaders to reach out to participants in case of any last-minute alterations to the schedule or route.

"Our Ride Leaders and Master Ride Leaders are highly skilled and well respected by the Bicycle NSW community. They volunteer to lead hundreds of rides every year. Thank you all! Our affiliated BUGs do extraordinary work for the bicycle community annually. Their direct input has also been invaluable in helping to raise our awareness of bicycle riding related infrastructure projects, proposals, submissions and concerns throughout NSW. Without their intimate knowledge of local riding areas, we would not be able to have had so many positive and safe outcomes in creating a better environment for all bicycle riders. They truly form a crucial network of communication between the needs of the riding community and advocacy groups. Together we will continue to make the change that is needed."
