With one man dying every minute from suicide globally, help make a change in November, by riding this Movember.

Starting in 2003 as a joke to bring the mustache back, Movember has now raised $1.04 billion for men’s health with a particular focus on men’s mental health, prostate and testicular cancers.

Staff prepare for Movember riding challenge in November

But what is Movember? Throughout the month of November, men are encouraged to grow a mustache and to raise money for men’s health.  If you aren’t able to grow a Mo, you’re encouraged to “Move For Movember” by walking or running 60km.

This year, Bicycle NSW is joining the challenge with each of our staff members committing to ride 60km over the month. We encourage everyone to ride the 60km (or more) with us, or to walk/run to support Movember this year.

Bike riding is also a great mood booster due to the mood-enhancing endorphins that are released when exercising.  According to a study by Sydney University, people who commute to work by bicycle, are twice as happy as those who catch public transport, walk or drive.

Help boost the mental health of those around you by checking in and also encouraging them to hop on a bike.

“Even if you’re planning to grow a mo this Movember, we’d still encourage you to commit to riding 60km for Men’s Health. There are many physical and mental health benefits of bike riding and we want everyone to enjoy them,” commented Kim Lavender, Bicycle NSW Communications Manager.
