Thirteen years ago, David along with his eldest son and father rode Spring Cycle for the very first time. With his youngest son Max now old enough, in 2019, David will be riding across the Sydney Harbour Bridge with his three children in memory of his father.

Family on bikes ready for Spring Cycle

“Riding Spring Cycle is an institution in our family. I started riding Spring Cycle in 2006 with Finn, who is almost 19 now.  Also I did it with my father, who has now passed away. What makes it special this year is that all three of my children will be riding with me,” explained David.

Riding most of his life, David has instilled his passion for bike riding into his family. For example, at only eight, Mia has completed the Classic Ride four times. This year Mia has encouraged her classmates to join her ride team, the Bilgola Blasters.

“My youngest son has been on the bike without training wheels since he was three, and has just got a new bike for his birthday. He’s only five so he’ll be riding on my bike for his first Spring Cycle.”

“It really is something we have always enjoyed doing as a family. I like the comradery of the ride and the experiences you have with people along the way. Everyone is just having a chat and it’s not too serious, it’s a fun day.”

You can join David and his family on the 10km City Ride and 50km Classic Ride for Spring Cycle on Sunday, October 13. Find out more here.
