Councillors For Active Transport

Dear Candidate,

Congratulations for putting yourself forward as a candidate for the NSW Council Elections on 14th September.

Bicycle NSW works tirelessly each and every day to create a better environment for all bike riders in NSW.

Making it easier to walk and ride will address many of the issues that concern your residents. Active transport tackles cost of living pressures, parking problems, congestion and traffic woes, and unsafe streets around schools. 

In addition, your council will have a Net Zero target. Transport is the second largest source of CO2 emissions and it is growing. Without bold actions to facilitate active and public transport, it will be impossible to meet targets.

Local governments have a major influence on our transport network. Councils control roads, collect and spend rates, and advocate for state and federal funding.

• Advocate for dedicated and increased funding for walking and cycling projects
• Work with Council to create safer streets that prioritise people not cars, particularly around schools and town centres
• Champion an active culture at Council and within the community
