General Renewal Answers

1.  I have paid for the renewal of my Membership why haven’t I received my new Member pass yet?

Thank you for renewing your Membership! While we are still in the 2020/21 Membership year your current Member pass (2020/21) remains valid. We will send you a link to your 2021/22 Member pass early in the new Membership year (July 2021).

Thank you for your patience.

2. Why do I have to re-enter all my (personal) details while I have been a Member for a while? Why does the system not pre populate with my details after I have logged in?

Unfortunately, our system does not have the capability to pre-populate Membership fields with data that is already on our system. We do apologise for this inconvenience and hope to rectify this with next year’s renewal.

3.  Why do I have to pay for my Membership again when I have only joined recently?

Our standard Membership year starts on 1st July and runs until 30th June the following year. Anyone who joins during the year, only pays a ‘pro rata’ Membership fee (for the part of the Membership year that is still remaining).

The expiry date for a Membership bought during a Membership year is usually 30th June which means that even if you joined in, eg, April you will need to renew your Membership in June.

4. Why do you send out a renewal notice/reminder when my Membership is not due for weeks/has not yet expired?

We send out renewal notices early to make sure our Members are aware their Membership is about to expire. This is also to let our Members who have a Membership that is set up for automatic renewal know that we will soon start renewing their Membership.

We want to give all our Members time to prepare for the payment of the renewal of their Membership so their Membership does not lapse leaving them without bike rider insurance cover. This way Members can continue to ride with peace of mind knowing that they are covered by the best insurance cover for recreational bike riders in NSW.

5. Q: What is the difference between an Individual and a Concession Membership?

A: An Individual Membership is for the sole rider in a household who is between the age of 25 and 65.

A Concession Membership is for anyone under 25 living independently or who is over 65.

6. I am not sure when my Membership is due, how do I find out?

A: Please login to your account here and click on ‘Orders’ (left hand column).

You can also find the date of expiry in all of our Member only newsletters (top right hand corner). This is also where you can find the link to your 2020/21 digital Member pass.

7. Instead of renewing my 2020/21 Membership, I think I have purchased a new Membership, what should I do?

A: Please contact our Membership Team via email on info@bicyclensw.org.au or call us on (02) 9704 0800 and they will sort it out for you. It will only take a few minutes!

8. When I renew my Membership, do I keep my existing Member number?

A: Yes, you will keep your existing (2020/21) Member number.

9. I think that my Membership expires soon and I still have not received a renewal notice/reminder, what should I do?

A: You can check the renewal date for your Membership after you have logged in to your account here, then click on ‘Orders’ (left hand column).

You can also find the date of expiry in all of our Member only newsletters (top right hand corner). This is also where you can find the link to your 2020/21 digital Member pass.

If your Membership is due soon and you have not yet received our (electronic) renewal notice, please check your Junk/Spam folder to see if it has gone there.

Or contact our Membership Team via email on info@bicyclensw.org.au or call us on (02) 9704 0800 and they will be able to verify it for you.

10. Why do I keep receiving reminders to renew my Membership when I have already renewed my Membership?

We know that it can be annoying to keep receiving emails even while they do not seem relevant to you (anymore).

During our renewal period we not only send out our usual monthly Member newsletter but also a renewal notice and renewal reminders. This is to ensure that most, preferably all, Members are aware that their Membership is due to expire.

As our renewal reminders are sometimes scheduled up to a few days in advance, it is possible that some Members are still on our mailing list even while they have just renewed their Membership.

We do not mean to spam you and we apologise for any inconvenience.

Please do not unsubscribe from our newsletter as you may miss out on important news and updates and you will not receive the link to your new (2021/22) Member pass.

11. Why have you renewed my Membership?

A: On 1 June, we renew all Memberships that are set on automatic renewal. If your Membership was renewed, it means that the renewal method for your Membership was (is) automatic.

If you want to check the renewal method for your Membership, please log in to your account, then click on ‘Orders’ (left hand column under Dashboard). In the next screen, you will see the ‘Auto Renewal’ option.

If it is set on ‘yes’ it means that your Membership has been or soon will be renewed automatically. If the renewal method is set on ‘no’ it means that your Membership has to be renewed by yourself (online or over the phone). You can change the renewal method by clicking on the toggle.

Or contact our Membership Team via email on info@bicyclensw.org.au or call them on (02) 9704 0800 and request that the renewal method for your Membership is changed.

12. Will your insurance cover me when I am riding off road (MTB) / commuting to work / riding an e-bike / participating in an event or charity ride?

A: Yes, Members are covered by our bike rider insurance irrespective of the type of bike they ride or the type of ride they participate in. Exceptions are:

  • Riding in a wholly timed event (race).
  • Riding for payment or financial gain.

13. I have moved interstate can I still have a Bicycle NSW Membership and will I still be covered by your insurance?

A: Yes! As long as you live in Australia, you can be(come) a Member of Bicycle NSW and enjoy the same Member benefits (including comprehensive insurance cover).

Back to questions

14. Can I insure my bike as well?

A: Yes, we also offer affordable bike insurance. For as little as $1.32 a week you can insure your bike for theft from and damage at home. Please click here to go to Oz Bike Insurance to obtain a quote.

Bicycle NSW Members receive a 10% discount on an Oz Bike Insurance policy. Please log in to your account here to access your Member discount code.

Back to questions

15. Can I renew my Membership for a shorter timeframe?

A: At the moment, our system does not have the flexibility to offer (many) different expiry dates. For that reason, we do not offer shorter term Memberships at renewal.

16.Why should I renew my Membership? I do not ride as much/far as before.

Even if you only ride a few times a month, only on holidays or mostly short distances (for instance to the shops or to take your children to their school), having bike rider insurance gives peace of mind knowing that should something go wrong, we have your back (of course we hope nothing goes wrong!). One of the most often claimed benefits is for loss of income. Would you be able to afford being out of work if you had an accident?

Also by being (or remaining) a BNSW Member you support our advocacy work and help create positive change for all bike riders in NSW.
