This World Bicycle Day let’s celebrate the simple joy of riding a bike.

On June 3, Bicycle NSW encourages everyone to go for a bike ride and feel the fresh air on their face, get your blood pumping and enjoy being outside.

Bike Riders Taking A Photo For World Bicycle Day 2020

COVID-19 has made the last few months challenging. However, we have loved seeing all the new faces to the bike riding community. With gyms and many sport facilities still closed, bike riding has enabled many people to keep active. Yet, physical fitness is not all the simple bicycle offers.

Did you know?

  • People who commute to work by bike have a 52% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease and 40% lower risk of dying from cancer.
  • In Sydney, 65.5% of adults drive to work and another 20.9% catch public transport and they arrive at their workplace in a worse frame of mind than those who rode or walked.

Bicycles have transformed lives around the world meeting transport, health, social engagement or environmental sustainability needs.

In NSW, we can do better to provide safe and connected cycleways to further encourage bicycle usage in order to provide sustainable transport options.

This World Bicycle Day, we are calling on everyone to post a photo on social media of your bike or the ride itself and tag Bicycle NSW (@bicyclensw) and use #MyRideWBD20.

We will use this tag to create a community of bike riders throughout our state. We can’t wait to see them all!
