Kiama Bicycle User Group (KBUG) is again proudly participating in NSW Seniors Festival (‘Seniors Week’ 25 March to 3 April 2022) by organising a local ride on 29 March.

“The group is particularly excited and has put together a package to entice prospective participants to, as the theme for the week suggests, ReConnect”, said Warren McPherson KBUG committee member.

KBUG aims to get newcomers and those who have not cycled for some time to get going on their bikes. The Senior’s Week special ride package, which is complimentary for participants, includes:

  • A supported ride.
  • A Bicycle NSW Membership.
  • Free annual membership of KBUG.
  • A basic bike mechanical workshop.
  • The world’s best morning tea.

KBUG is affiliated with Bicycle NSW (BNSW) and has been in existence for over 15 years. It has over 80 members and organises rides throughout the beautiful Illawarra from Jervis Bay in the south to Thirroul, north of Wollongong.

Regular rides are organised three days each week as well as a monthly off-road wide-tire ride on a Wednesday. KBUG also organises inter-regional rides to rural areas further afield. These have been very successful, and riders are keen to get back to them, having been deprived by COVID in recent times.

All their rides are published on the ride platform Buncheur and are led by accredited BNSW Ride Leaders, most of whom have undertaken a First Aid course organised by KBUG.

The KBUG Ride Package has been made financially possible by a grant from the NSW Department of Family and Community Services and is supported by Bicycle NSW. KBUG are partnering with the State Government, Kiama Council, Bicycle NSW and local businesses and organisations to get seniors cycling.

Registration details will be on the KBUG website soon - https://kiamabug.org.au
