Bicycle NSW wishes to convey its condolences to the family and friends of a man who died last night (Thursday, 29 of July) after he was hit at the intersection of Churchill Crescent and Hotham Street in Casino around 9:40pm.

NSW Police attending an unrelated job had tried to stop the man at around 9pm on Churchill Street when they saw him riding without a helmet or lights, but he continued riding and was hit by a driver.  In spite of the best efforts of paramedics and police he died at the scene.

A critical incident investigation has been declared and a team from Tweed-Byron Police District will investigate the incident, before it is independently reviewed.

“We are saddened by this death and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the rider,” said Bicycle NSW General Manager of Public Affairs, Bastien Wallace.
