Bicycle NSW wishes to convey its condolences to the family and friends of a rider who was hit this morning on Kurrajong Road, Richmond and who has died.  We also convey our best wishes for the swift recovery of another rider who is in a critical condition in hospital.

Around 4:55 this morning two men were riding bikes travelling west along Kurrajong Road, Richmond, when they were struck by a vehicle.

Emergency services were unable to save the first rider, and the second rider was transported to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

The male driver of the vehicle has been taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

Kurrajong Road is closed in both directions and road diversions are in place as officers from Hawkesbury Police Area Command and the Crash Investigation Unit investigate.

“We are deeply saddened by this death and also wish to share our best wishes for recovery for the rider being treated in hospital on behalf of Bicycle NSW, and our members,” said Bicycle NSW General Manager of Public Affairs, Bastien Wallace.

“There have been 13 bike rider fatalities from crashes in NSW this year, and we’re calling on everyone to take extra care on the roads.  Additional holiday traffic coincides with reduced visibility for many communities across the state affected by bushfire smoke.  We’re reminding people to slow down and take care,” said Bastien.
