Sydney is a great city for bike rides! Whether you are commuting to work, getting to school or the shops, zipping past traffic on the way to the beach or looking for a good leg stretch, Greater Sydney has a myriad of options.

Check out the Rides Map for some inspiration.

Sydney now has around 1500km of recreational bike trails and some are very scenic. The maps at BikeTrail.Blog are a great resource for planning off-road trips. For a really fantastic challenge, why not tackle the Greater Sydney Bike Trail?

There are still too many faded ‘door zone’ bike lanes across the suburbs.  However, metropolitan councils are gradually getting the bike bug and installing decent off-road shared paths or protected bicycle paths. Bicycle NSW supports projects with continuous advocacy to decision makers and detailed submissions.

There is a really useful Facebook group, Sydney Bike Commuters, where riders share advice about route planning and all things cycling in Sydney.  You can also email Bicycle NSW for tips and maps.

And please get in touch if you would like to write a short article about a fun sightseeing trip or your favourite routes for commuting. Our friends and Members love reading your stories!
